Determining the Harvest Time
-
Cavendish bananas are harvested 11–12 weeks after flowering (depending on growing region and weather conditions).
-
Fruits must reach technical maturity: full shape, firm peel, light green veins, with no black spots or signs of physiological ripening.
2. Harvesting in the Field
-
Cut the bunch using a sharp knife and handle gently to avoid mechanical scratches.
-
Wash and remove latex using a de-latexing solution (water mixed with lime or a mild disinfectant).

3. Preliminary Processing and Packing in the Field
-
Cut into hands and sort by size, curvature, and peel appearance.
-
Wash and dip in a chlorine solution (100–150 ppm) for disinfection.
-
Drain naturally.
-
Pack into carton boxes of 9–13 kg, with PE liners or moisture-absorbing bags, and attach traceability labels.
4. Transportation to the Packing Facility
-
Use small trucks and avoid direct sunlight.
-
Transport time from field to packhouse should not exceed 3 hours.
-
Upon arrival, bananas are placed in a cold room at 13–14°C to stabilize temperature before shipment.
5. Quality Inspection Before Export
-
Check maturity level, peel condition, weight, color, and remove defective fruits.
-
Test for pesticide residues, box moisture, and the general condition of the peel before loading into containers.
